Mystical Moonstone and Attractive Alexandrite
June is a special month because it has two mystical birthstones – moonstone and alexandrite - each has a unique characteristic that sets it apart from all other stones. Let’s jump in with one of my favorite stones to work with: the moonstone.
Moonstone is the birthstone for June babies, but it’s also given on the 13th wedding anniversary. Moonstone was used in jewelry by the Romans who believed that the stone was formed from the light of the moon and it is considered a sacred stone in India. When you see a high quality rainbow moonstone like the ones I use in my work, you can totally see why they thought that.
Moonstone is believed to bring good fortune, to enhance passion and is said to protect women and children. The moonstone has healing properties and is said to promote digestion, protect against epilepsy, calm emotions, cure headaches and nose bleeds, and protect against sun stroke.
The moonstone is associated with the crown chakra which controls how we think, and how we respond to the world around us. When it is balanced, we are coordinated, we fit together, our energies are in balance and we know our place in the universe. When the crown chakra is out of balance, you will feel clumsy, uncoordinated, you will stumble with movement and thoughts and you will be spiritually adrift.
Moonstone calms and relieves stress while releasing love of all kinds – which is my favorite part about them. :-)
Attractive Alexandrite
In addition to being given to birthdays in June, it is also given for 55th wedding anniversaries. The tones are color change, which means that in incandescent light, they are purple and in daylight they are a green/blue/violet color.
Alexandrite’s healing properties balances the nervous system, it will soothe inflammation and tension in the neck muscles.
On a more spiritual level, Alexandrite inspires your imagination, encourages you to listen to your feelings and your inner voice and it will help you achieve emotional maturity. It encourages you to find joy in everyday life. Because it is a color change stone, it allows you to see two sides of an issue or a problem and links the heart and the mind.
