Sapphire is the birthstone for September and a very popular stone in general. This could be in part to its meaning and healing properties. It's one of my favorite gemstones to work with and wear personally and I've always been drawn to them. When I started studying more about them it made a lot of sense.
Sapphire is said to bring spiritual enlightenment and inner peace. It's believed to offer healing properties for rheumatism, colic, and mental illness. It is also considered an antidepressant and an aid to psychokinesis, telepathy, clairvoyance and astral projection. Super cool, right?
Let's talk about the energetic properties of sapphires. In our Peridot blog post, we talked about what chakras are, so if you're not familiar with them, please head over there to read that before coming back here!
Sapphire stimulates the Throat and Third Eye Chakras, allowing you to access deeper levels of consciousness in order to gain a fuller understanding of your self.
Associated with the planet Saturn, Blue Sapphire embraces order, structure, and self-discipline, and is ideal for accomplishing goals and manifesting ideas into form.
When the throat chakra is in balance we have an easy flow of energy within the body and spirit. The energy that springs upward from the sacral chakra through the solar plexus can continue its path enabling free expression of the values and needs expressed within the energy. I've always had a fear of speaking publicly, speaking up for myself and am typically shy in social situations. It's no wonder I'm drawn to this stone!
When the throat chakra is out of balance the physical symptoms may include sore throats, tight jaws, stiff neck, and headaches. When it is out of balance spiritually you might find yourself habitually lying, feeling fear and doubt about the intentions of others, or find yourself stammering or at a loss for words.
You will likely have feelings of being isolated and misunderstood. You may well have symptoms of other chakras being out of balance. This is caused by the throat chakra blocking the energy flow from the other centers.
As well as being the birthstone for September, Sapphire is also given for the 5th, 23rd and 45th wedding anniversaries.
